Sergey Borisov is an abstract sculptor, a master of volumetric plasticity who creates object-images from natural, often raw and rugged materials. In his work on unveiling the structural essence of the material world, the artist inevitably enters into dialogue with the emerging piece. When he discovers a resonance—both with the surface and the inner fabric of the creation—he seeks immutable solutions for the embodiment of forms. Borisov’s sculptural objects, despite their apparent static quality and reliance on the pedestal as an exhibition platform, resemble dynamic transformer-modules designed for the invariance of viewpoints. His use of color is never incidental: it becomes an integral characteristic of plastic volumes and allows one to speak of his distinctive “color-plasticity.”
